Royals, Bobby Witt Jr., Agree to a Contract Extension

Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and the Kansas City Royals are in agreement on an 11-year, $288.7 million contract extension. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN.


Bobby Witt Jr's deal includes three club option years that can keep him in Royals uniform for the next 14 years. According to Mark Feinsand. The club options can bring the total contract to $377.7M.


Also in the contract, Bobby Witt Jr. has four player opt-outs. It's after the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th years. Witt has the choice to either opt-in or opt-out.


Bobby Witt Jr., had an amazing 2023 season. He made a lot of jumps as a player. He's just 23-years-old, and the Kansas City Royals have locked up their guy for a long time.


The Royals aren't known for giving out big contracts to their players. They have one of the least amount of payroll in the entire MLB. The Royals spending money on their stars is something all baseball fans should agree that is pretty cool to see.


There's no question that Bobby Witt Jr. is the best player on the Royals. He has the potential to be one of the best players in the entire MLB. Witt Jr. showed that in 2023. Bobby Witt Jr. made 158 starts, he slashed .276/.319/.495, with 30 HR's, 96 RBI's, 49 SB's, and an .813 OPS.


With the Kansas City Royals locking up Bobby Witt Jr. for the next 11 seasons, it's time for the Royals to build around him. Bobby Witt Jr. is a great player, and the type of player a team should build around.
