The San Francisco Giants have signed catcher, Tom Murphy to a two-year, $8 million contact. There is a club option for a third year. Tom Murphy, who is 32-years-old, will serve as the backup catcher to 24-year-old Patrick Bailey.
The San Francisco Giants have made multiple signings already this off-season. First, they signed OF Jung Hoo Lee to a big contract, six years, worth $113 million. Now, they signed Tom Murphy. Also, they are still linked to many other free-agents.
Tom Murphy has solidified himself as a solid catcher. He's played eight seasons at the MLB level. In 2023, Murphy played in 47 games. He slashed .290/.335/.538, with 8 HR's, 17 RBI's, and a .873 OPS. The Giants are getting a good backup catcher.
The Giants will continue to make more and more signings this off-season. It's becoming more and more likely, they've missed out on big name free-agents the past few years and they don't want to be doing that anymore. So, it's expected the Giants make more moves that are top level moves.
