Yesterday, the Los Angeles Dodgers made a trade with the Chicago White Sox. In the trade, the LA Dodgers received SP Lance Lynn and RP Joe Kelly. The Chicago White Sox received, OF Trayce Thomson, P Nick Nastrini, and P Jordan Leasure.
For the Dodgers, they're certainly adding solid pitching depth. Lance Lynn will be able to slot in perfectly in the Dodgers rotation. Joe Kelley, who used to play for the Dodgers will be a solid option out of the bullpen.
For the White Sox, they're obviously selling. So, they're going to get some MLB ready players, but mostly minor league, and young talent. Trayce Thomson, who used to play for the White Sox, will be solid OF depth. Nick Nastrini, who's in AA, is definitely going to be a good piece in the MLB when he makes it.
Lance Lynn isn't having the best of seasons, but he's definitely a innings eater. In 21 games, 119.2 innings pitched, he has a 6.47 ERA, 144 SO, and a 1.46 WHIP. For Joe Kelley, he's having an okay season out of the bullpen, in 31 games, 29 innings pitched, he has a 4.97 ERA, 41 SO, and a 1.31 WHIP.
The Dodgers obviously got the better end of the trade, at least right now. They got two pitchers who can be reliable, and they got more pitching depth. Obviously, the Dodgers are going to try to make a deep run in October, and this is just adding to it.
