The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox Complete Rare Trade

Fierce rivals, the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have completed a rare trade. After all, it’s just the eighth Yankees/Red Sox trade since 1969. The New York Yankees are acquiring outfielder Alex Verdugo in a trade with the Boston Red Sox for right-handeres Richard Fitts, Greg Weissert and Nicholas Judice, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

The Yankees offense was in desperate need for left handed contact hitters. Alex Verdugo could not fit the description any better. Verdugo slashed .264/.324/.421 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI in 2023. His bat combined with his defense gives the Yankees some much needed help. His lefty swing pairs well with their short porch, which is an added bonus.

Heading back to Boston is three pitchers with Richard Fitts being the most notable. Fitts comes in as the Yankees 12th ranked prospect. Weissert, has seen his fair share of major league time, spending most of his time coming out of the bullpen. Boston is acquiring, much needed, three pitchers with some high upside.
