The Rockies Lock up Their Shortstop for the Future

The Colorado Rockies and shortstop Ezequiel Tovar are in agreement on a contract extension. The contract extension is a seven-year, $84 million deal. The Rockies are extending one of their best young players to be around the rebuild for a long time.

Ezequiel Tovar is just 22-years-old. The next time he will be a free-agent is when he is 29-years-old. The fact that he will still be in his 20's after a long term contract is pretty exciting for the Colorado Rockies front office and the fans.

Tovar has obviously played for the Rockies his entire career. It hasn't been a long career for Ezequiel Tovar, he only has one full season under his belt. Last year, in 153 games, Tovar slashed .253/.287/.408, with 15 HR's, 73 RBI's, and a .695 OPS.

Right now, the Rockies have a lot to look forward to. Obviously the team right now isn't a very good one, but the future in Colorado is bright. The Rockies now know that they have one of many young stars locked up for the long haul in Ezequiel Tovar.
