The 2023 World Series Champions, Texas Rangers added to their bullpen by signing relief pitcher Kirby Yates to a one-year, $4.5 million contract. This is the first move for the Rangers this off-season. They're expected to make many more to add on to their ball club. Kirby Yates played for the Braves last year, now he will join the Rangers.
Kirby Yates was a workhorse for the Atlanta Braves in 2023 and it's expected he continues that with the Texas Rangers. Kirby Yates pitched in 61 games and 60.1 IP. Yates posted a 7-2 record, with a 3.28 ERA, 80 SO's, and a 1.19 WHIP.
The Rangers pitching last year was their only weak spot. They wanted to address that this off-season, and they're already adding to their bullpen. In 2023, the Rangers pitching had a 4.28 ERA which ranked 18th in all of baseball. They had just 27 saves, which was 27th in all of baseball.
This move to bring Kirby Yates to the Rangers isn't going to be the only move by the defending World Series champions. In fact, it's the first of many. The Rangers will continue to add to their pitching and other spots. They are off to a very solid start to their off-season.
