Veteran catcher Tucker Barnhart was informed yesterday that he was released by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will now be a free agent and can sign with any team. It’s at the point in the season where teams are finding out what they need for the stretch of trying to win a World Series. This is a perfect time for Barnhart to be a free agent.
Tucker Barnhart is in his 10th season as a major league player. This season was his first year with the Diamondbacks. He only spent less then half a year with them. Barnhart has spent almost his entire career with the Cincinnati Reds.
The Diamondbacks made the decision to release Tucker Barnhart for multiple reasons. The main one being that he was just their backup. In just 31 MLB games this season, Barnhart slashed .173/.287/.210, he didn’t have a HR, Barnhart drove in 6 RBI, and he posted a .497 OPS.
Tucker Barnhart will now begin his search to find a new home. It could take a while, or it could be a quick free agency for Barnhart. The hope is that he can find a new home and get some decent playing time.
