DETROIT, MI: On Saturday, the Detroit Tigers promoted outfielder Akil Baddoo from Triple-A Toledo and placed outfielder Wenceel Perez on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain.

Due to discomfort in his side, Perez left Friday's 3-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants in the fourth inning. The rookie, 24, is raking the baton .242 in 97 games this season, nine home runs, and thirty-two RBIs.

In 26 games with the Tigers this season, Baddoo, 25, had trouble at bat, .117, with four RBIs and two home runs. He was taking a batting position .256 in 56 games at Toledo with seven home runs and 28 RBI. Baddoo has played for the Tigers in four major league seasons with 28 home runs, 102 RBIs, and a .226 batting average over 335 games.

Since making his Major League debut on April 8, Perez has established himself as a reliable member of Detroit's starting lineup. For his 574 innings as a right fielder, Perez has +3 Outs Above Average and +2 Defensive Runs Saved; however, the UZR/150 metric (-0.3) is less impressive.

Kerry Carpenter and Mark Canha shared right field duties early in the season, but after Carpenter's lengthy trip on the injured list and Canha's increased use as a first baseman and designated hitter until the Tigers sold him to the Giants, Perez essentially assumed the starting job. Even though his glovework up the middle hasn't been the best, Perez has also seen a significant amount of playing time in center field.
