Tigers to Bring Back Familiar Reliever

The Tigers and left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin are in agreement on a one-year contract with a club option. Andrew Chafin's deal with the Tigers has a base salary of $4.25 million in 2024, plus up to $1.25 million in incentives. The club option for 2025 is $6.5 million with up to $1.25 million in incentives. $500,000 buyout on the option. The deal is expected to be finalized Monday, per Evan Petzold of Detroit Free Press.


Chafin has bounced around a bit since 2021, spending time with Oakland, Chicago (NL), Arizona, Detroit, and Milwaukee. Last season between Arizona and Milwaukee, Chafin pitched to a 4.73 ERA, but his 2.83 with Detroit is a major factor of his return to Motor City.


The Tigers, being in the weak AL Central, has a real shot of making some noise next season. With their young club mixed with some proven veterans, could make them an exciting team. Chafin, is guaranteed to have a voice in the bullpen as he comes back to Detroit with experience for the young arms.
