KANSAS CITY, MO: The Twins have officially placed Lewis on the 10-day IL and called up Austin Martin. Royce Lewis’ injury is described as a right quad strain, with a retroactive IL placement of March 29, per MLBTradeRumors.com.

Lewis headed into the 2024 season with big expectations. Due mostly to two right ACL injuries, Lewis has only played in 350 career minor league games and 71 big league regular season games since being chosen as the first overall pick in the 2017 draft. Lewis missed all of the 2020–21 season of minor league baseball due to the pandemic, and he also suffered his first ACL tear.

Lewis’ 2024 has seen just two AB that has resulted in two hits with a home run. His 2023 saw him slash .309/.372/.548 with 15 home runs. The problem has never been talent with Lewis, it’s been all about health.

The Twins have been waiting for Lewis to take off. He has all the capacity of doing so. The 24 year old will now miss time due to being placed on the IL. Once Lewis gets back on the field, his impact is expected to be felt.
