The Miami Marlins are designating catcher Christian Bethancourt for assignment. Per, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com (http://mlb.com/). In addition, the club is expected to add recently-acquired Ali Sánchez to the MLB roster to take the place of Christian Bethancourt.

The Marlins acquired Christian Bethancourt from the Cleveland Guardians this past off-season in exchange for cash considerations. At the time Bethancourt was expected to be the backup catcher for the Marlins. He was doing a decent job at it, but Miami wanted to move on.

This is Bethancourt’s 11th season at the major league level. He has served as mostly a backup catcher. Here and there he was a starter, but only if it was needed. The Marlins was Christian Bethancourt’s 5th team in the MLB.

Here is a look at Christian Bethancourt’s 2024 stats:

38 games | .159/.198/.268 | 2 HR | 7 RBI | .466 OPS

Christian Bethancourt has also been very unlucky this season. Not getting a good amount of playing time consistently can hurt a player. Now, Bethancourt will look to join another team before

the season ends.
