Veteran Designated Hitter Turns Down an Offer From the Giants

According to Jon Heyman of the NY Post, the San Francisco Giants made a contract offer to J.D. Martinez before they signed Jorge Soler. J.D. Martinez reportedly rejected the offer because "he didn't want to go there".

The Giants then pivoted to a different designated hitter, and that is Jorge Soler. He signed a three-year, $42 million contract. J.D. Martinez is one of the multiple good free-agents still on the board for teams to sign.

J.D. Martinez has had a great career. He's been around for along time, exactly 13 seasons. In 2023, Martinez was an All-Star. J.D. Martinez played for the Dodgers last year, he started in 113 games. Martinez slashed .271/.321/.572, with 33 HR's, 103 RBI's, and a .893 OPS.

There's going to be a few more teams who will try to sign J.D. Martinez. The Giants tried, but weren't successful, so they pivoted to Jorge Soler. Spring Training just recently got underway, so expect J.D. Martinez and more free-agents to sign within the next few weeks.
