The New York Mets announced yesterday that they released first baseman Luke Voit. According to the New York Post. This move was a decision the Mets made after Voit didn't make the Mets Opening Day roster. Luke Voit had just a .455 OPS this spring training in 14 games.
Luke Voit is a 33-year-old who still has some potential. He's had some really good years with the Yankees in the past, so the potential is obviously there. Luke Voit just hasn't been the same since joining the Mets. This off-season, Luke Voit was re-signed by the Mets, but he's now released after Spring Training.
Luke Voit had a pretty bad Spring Training this year which is a main reason why he was released, also because there wasn't really any room on the roster. Luke Voit went 4-34 (.118), just one home run, three walks, and 14 strikeouts in the Grapefruit League.
There's most definitely going to be a few teams in on Luke Voit. Especially to use Voit as a bench bat. Voit led the league in home runs in 2020 with the Yankees. It'll be interesting to see if Luke Voit can get an MLB deal or if it'll be an MiLB deal. Time will only tell for Luke Voit.
