Veteran Outfielder Shines in Return to Boston

BOSTON, MA: The New York Yankees traveled to Boston for the start of a three game set against their heated rivals, The Boston Red Sox. These two AL East rivals made a rare trade last offseason when the Red Sox sent outfielder Alex Verdugo to the Bronx in exchange for Greg Weissert, Richard Fitts, and Nicholas Judice.

This was a matchup highly marked on many calendars as this was set to be the return for Alex Verdugo to Boston. Verdugo was traded to Boston apart of the Mookie Betts trade. After the Red Sox were unsatisfied with Verdugo’s play, they sent him packing.

It seems like Verdugo has had quite the time in New York thus far. In his first year in Pinstripes, Verdugo is slashing .259/.314/.418 with 8 home runs and is providing a new energy to the club.

Verdugo went 3-5 with a home run and a double and compiled 4 RBI en route to the Yankees 8-1 victory in Friday night’s contest.

Alex Verdugo said it was..

"pure adrenaline"

to come up big in his return to Fenway Park.

Verdugo is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season, but is taking full advantage of his time in the Bronx. With just over a half season to go, Verdugo and the Yankees will get a few more turns at the Red Sox.
