The Chicago White Sox have designated catcher Martín Maldonado for assignment. Per, Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic. This is no surprise as Maldonado has been slumping ever since the season started. Also, this is now the time that the White Sox will look to clean house at the trade deadline.

Martín Maldonado has never been known for his offense in his whole entire career. He has always been a below average hitter. The thing about Maldonado is his defense. He has caught multiple no hitters.

This is Martín Maldonado’s 14th season in the MLB. He has spent those 14 seasons with multiple teams. Including the Brewers, Angels, Astros, Royals, Cubs, and the White Sox.

This season has been one of the worst offensive seasons for Martín Maldonado. In 48 games, he is slashing .119/.174/.230, with 4 HR, 11 RBI, and a .404 OPS.

There’s plenty of teams out there that could use backup catcher help. Especially contending teams. It’ll be interesting to see if Martín Maldonado will get picked up this season by a team or if he’ll just sit out the rest of the season and look forward to 2025.
