It's no secret that the Aaron Hicks experiment has not gone the way the Yankees had hoped. Back in February of 2019, the Yankees and Aaron Hicks were in agreement on a 7-year contract worth $70M. Just four years later, he is off of the roster.
Aaron Hicks was a top CF just a few seasons ago, after a long history of injuries and poor performance, he has completely turned. From 2017-2020 Hicks had an .820 OPS and averaged 30 HR 90 RBI and 5.2 fWAR per 162 games.
In the last three seasons, Hicks hasn't hit above a .216 average and has just 13 homeruns in that span.
In the days leading up to his DFA, Hicks has looked a bit promising. In his last six games, he's 6 for 15 with a .400 average, a home run, and a 1.233 OPS. A team in need for some outfield help could take a flyer on the 33-year old after his last promising week in the Big Apple.
