MLB World Tour to Continue in Japan; Cubs Dodgers Get Nod

Photo(s) by MLB On Fox

LOS ANGELES, CA: The Cubs and Dodgers have been privately informed that they have been selected to open the 2025 season in Tokyo, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

The Dodgers are fresh off of their opening series in Seoul Series split with the San Diego Padres. Before they got ready to start their Freeway Series against the Angels, they were privately informed that they would be opening the 2025 season in Japan.

For the Cubs, they would head back to Mesa, Arizona, the site of their spring training facility after the series. From there, they would begin the “domestic” portion of their 2025 schedule on the West Coast, with a home opening in Chicago to follow.

Both clubs will carry heavy interest into Japan with both sides having strong Japanese presences. With the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shota Imanaga, and Seiya Suzuki, Major League Baseball got this matchup correct.

As we talk about MLB World Tour, it goes hand in hand with a conversation about growing the game. That’s exactly what this series will do, as the others. The more we see Major League Baseball move onto new cities and choose teams that make sense, the more we will see the numbers grow for the game. Which is a beautiful thing.
