The Colorado Rockies are set to call up second baseman Adael Amador. He is currently in Double-A. Amador will completely skip Triple-A and go right to the MLB. He will take the place of their starting second baseman Brendan Rodgers who was placed on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain.
Rockies manager Bud Black on this news:
"It's going to give Amador a taste of the Majors here for a short period of time until B-Rod comes back. We're excited about that. It'll give us a chance to look at him. He'll be exposed to the pace of a Major League game versus a Double-A game. He's in good form at 21 years old. The thing that prompted this was the last 10 days he's been playing well. He's hit some homers, his batting average even though its below .200 it doesn't look great, he's been hitting well over .300 the last week or so. His defense has been fine. He's leading the Eastern League in walks and stolen bases, so there are some things to be excited about."
Adael Amador has gotten off to a rough start in Triple-A. He has started to turn it around as he’s hit home runs in three straight games. Here is Adael Amador‘s stats in 2024:
46 games | .194/.337/.329 | 7 HR | 24 RBI | 22 SB | .667 OPS
The defensive side for Adael Amador is pretty solid. He flashes the leather at 2B a lot and can really show his range. Everyone will now be able to see it at the highest stage in baseball.
The Rockies have also started out bad this season. Sometimes calling up young players to be their starters can put energy in the teams whole clubhouse. Adael Amador will get his first look at the MLB for a few weeks.
